Descrizione: This chapter analyses Cassius Dio’s representation of Caracalla through the lens of accusations of magic and superstition, comparing Dio’s narrative strategies with earlier Roman discourses on political deviance. Cicero is examined as a moral and rhetorical counterpoint, particularly with regard to elite norms of rationality and religious practice, showing how Dio mobilises Ciceronian paradigms to frame imperial excess.
