Descrizione: [Education through " exempla ": Cicero's use of role models in Roman educational culture]. The study examines how Cicero mobilizes exempla (historical models/counter-models) as an instrument of civic and rhetorical education (Bildungskultur) in late-Republican Rome. The author shows that Cicero's use of exempla is not ornamental: it shapes cultural memory, structures oratorical persuasion and proposes a moral curriculum for the elite, articulating ethics, politics and education. The chapter follows on from the author's work on Ciceronian role models and exemplary memory. [PhR]
