Descrizione: This study examines the outlines to apreciate the existence of a mentality of productivity, sometimes denied concernig the Ancient World, in the work of a late-republican author: M. Tulio Cicero. The Arpinate accepts the ambit of the productivity, but with insertions relating to the ethnical values (uirtus, decency, etc.) in order to include that idea into the traditional schemes and theoric ethical code of the upp.er classes. His contribution shows how the economical change of the II and I centuries B.C. requires an adaptation between a new reality and the traditional ethical values.
