Descrizione: [Abstract] At the end of the Sertorian War, the lex Gellia Cornelia provided for the extension of citizenship to certain individuals who had distinguished themselves through military merit while fighting alongside Pompey. A new reading of Cicero's Pro Balbo - the only source on this law - provides insights into how even the Roman citizenship grants made by Sertorius in the Iberian Peninsula were legally recognized by the late 70s BCE.
