Autore: Reggi, Giancarlo
Titolo: Tradizioni umanistiche ed edizione critica. L’esempio di Cic. fam. 9, 22
Rivista/Miscellanea: : Ciceroniana On Line X, 1
Anno edizione: 2026
Pagine: 235-292
Parole chiave: Éditions - Edizioni - Editions, Philologie - Filologia - Philology
Descrizione: In the preface to the 1969 Italian edition of Scribes and Scholars, G. Billanovich argued that to produce truly critical editions, it would be necessary to compile a comprehensive census of the manuscripts and then attempt to profile the individuals hidden behind the codices and their variant readings. In the case of the Epistulae ad Familiares, this undertaking promises to be a long one: the census does exist, thanks to M. D. Reeve, who inventoried no fewer than 364 manuscripts, excluding anthologies; the rest remains to be done. While this article focuses on the edition of just a single letter (fam. 9, 22) and examines 70 mss, these are enough to reveal the names of Manuel Chrysoloras and Gasparino Barzizza, alongside those of Coluccio Salutati, Niccolò Niccoli, and Guiniforte Barzizza. A critical edition of this Ciceronian letter is provided, accompanied by an Italian translation and explanatory notes offering new insights. [Author]
