Descrizione: The thesis analyses Cicero's first speech against Catilina (In Catilinam 1,1-1,2) with a particular focus on its rhetorical strategies and stylistic devices. In addition to an independent translation of the Latin text, central rhetorical techniques used by Cicero to stage a moral and political urgency are analysed. A modern interpretation of the speech and a reflection on its performative dimension complete the analysis.
