Description: [abstract] Although the strategy of appropriation and reversal of opposing arguments appears frequently in Cicero's judicial speeches, it receives little notice in ancient rhetorical theory because it crosses the boundaries of argumentatio and refutatio. Despite this lack of explicit prescription, the strategy is encouraged by the general hermeneutics imposed by formal rhetoric. (année philologique)
