Description: The A. i proposes to study the fragments of Cicero's poem to search for what might be the most likely date of its composition, and he moves from the idea that Cicero, in writing the " Marìus," aimed to achieve a political end. What it was, becomes clear by examining the situation in Rome in 60-59 when Caesar's personality was being affirmed. Then would have matured in Cicero's mind the purpose of composing that poem to make friends with Caesar who was so congenial to his uncle. So the " Marius" would have been written in the first three mei of 59.
