Description: [[Comment] On the occasion of the writing of De leg. (II,21ff.), Cicero found similarities between the laws of Solon and the XII Tables in the juxtaposition of Roman and Athenian burial laws and based the theory of borrowing on this in a purely logical operation. In Livy, the adoption of the Solonian laws with the legation to Athens appears as a historical process in the context of the XII tablet legislation (III,31). Two successive stages of progressive myth formation can be observed here. Similarly, there may be much in the annalistic tradition that goes back to erroneous antiquarian scholarship.
