Description:   The author investigates the relationship between epistles and orality, demonstrating the polysemous value of the latter category: a first line of inquiry concerns the ideational, textual and interpersonal aspects of communication; a second focuses rather around the idea of linguistic variety, conditioned by social or situational factors; a final strand concerns the perceptibility of phonic-acoustic features of speech in the written system. The properties of texts depend on the network layered relationships that these different categories establish: the author herself points to varied insights for new research, which will have the task of continuing to recognize the levels of linguistic representation best suited to each category [A.
