Description: [Abstract] Flaccus' suspension of the Jews' tribute to Jerusalem was not a corrupt racist act but the result of the Roman economic and administrative situation in Asia. The sending of tribute was a custom, not a legal right, and continued only throught the tolerance of Roman officials. Flaccus enforced the senatus consultum of 63 B.C. forbidding the export of gold and silver to prevent the shipping of several years of tribute into troubled Jerusalem. Pompey's drain on Asian bullion and silver in 62 may also have prompted Flaccus' decision.
