Description: (Translation terminology in Cicero's work) In Cicero's work there is an unprecedented in Latin literature variety of translation-terms. It is examined if each one of them has a particular meaning, which can be illustrated by a) their chronological appearance in his work, b) their use in order to introduce an existing translation from Greek and c) their use in passages expressing speculation on translation. As regards the translation praxis Cicero himself uses normally the current words for translation in his time, i.e. (con)vertere, exprimere, interpres. The terminology appears to be complicated in Cicero's theoretical works on rhetoric and philosophy, when he wants to place these writings into the tradition of latinizing Greek originals. In this frame he either changes the meaning of the old terms or he experimentally introduces new verbs (reddere, explicare, transferre), which rather have a metaphorical sense than be brought out as official terms of translation [Author] In Greek
