Description: Estelle Rauzy adopts Gilles Fauconnier's theories of mental spaces, cognitive structures built from the information contained in linguistic expressions and defined by relations of inclusion, to study some Ciceronian definitions of the epistolary communication: the letter can be likened to a "mini-space" with its own autonomous functioning, which allows the conditions of deferred communication. Following the developments of this perspective in the work of François Récanati, the author comes to trace utterances that reveal the construction of a "mixed space" where the circumstances of writing and reading are presented as concomitant [A.
