Plus largement, l’article montre comment le poids de la culture latine et la réception de l’Antiquité ont exagéré le rayonnement de ces discours judiciaires : nous avons une lecture très politique de ces procès et y voyons surtout des facteurs de destruction ou d’accélération de carrière pour les hommes politiques. Nous insistons ici sur l’approche diachronique des discours de repetundis et réinsérons leur analyse dans l’histoire et la géopolitique des provinces romaines. The History of Provincial Administration in the Speeches of Cicero. Currently, the Ciceronian corpus is seen to have influenced both the history of provincial republican administration and, as well, the history of the de repetundis tribunal. The de repetundis speeches reflect Cicero’s own shifting role as, at some times, accuser, at others defender, or, finally, as presider over the tribunal under consideration. More broadly, the article demonstrates how the weight of Latin culture and the reception of Antiquity have exaggerated the reach of these tribunal speeches : we have a highly political reading of them and we tend primarily to identify the factors that either accelerate or destroy the careers of political men. Insisting upon a diachronic approach to the de repetundis speeches, I shall reinsert their analysis into the history and geopolitics of the roman provinces [Author].
