Description: [VA] [Abstract] This article claims that it is plausinle to assert that, in Cicero’s opinion, the preservation of the liberty of the commonwealth requires that other members of the community develop their appropriate virtues, along with the rectores. Only if each member of the commonwealth fulfils his civic responsibilities in accordance with his place in society, will the res publica of old be restored and the liberty of individual citizens along with it. Thus, in advocating the exercise of individual virtues on the part of all members of the community, Cicero defends the liberty of the commonwealth and the plurality of interests of its citizens.
