Description: " At home everything goes as we wish... " : Private and political matters in Cicero's letters [Comment] Various statements from Cicero's corpus of letters are used to show that the private sphere was politically charged for a "nobilis" and that the boundary between the two areas was fluid for him; this applies above all to the function of the "domus", the handling of money, the position of the "matrona", marriage policy and social intercourse. A comparison with Greece makes it clear that the private sphere remained more strictly separated from the public sphere there and could be less politically activated.
