Descrizione: [Abstract]: Consideration of the aims and provisions of Mark Antony's judiciary law of September 44 B.C. (as evidenced in passages in Cicero's « Philippics », e.g. Phil. 1, 19-21 ; 5, 15 ; 8, 27 ; and 13, 37) challenges the view that this law had no further existence after it was annulled by the Senate in January of 43 B.C. Antony's law was almost certainly reinstated under the Triumvirs and thus altered the composition of juries in Rome's criminal courts. This realization makes it possible to reconstruct the nature and timing of Augustus' judicial reforms, which can be regarded as measures designed to reverse changes that had been introduced by Antony's legislation.
